Muscle memory

I believe that our muscles hold onto memories of things that happen in our life. Whether or not we are choosing to remember those things our bodies will continue to hold onto them, positively or negatively. Sometimes, during massages, we can experiences moments that release these memories and without knowing what's happening we are also experiencing the emotions of the memories with that release. These are known as SERs or Somato Emotional Releases. Sometimes these can be very uncomfortable, especially if you are uncomfortable with your massage therapist. You are very vulnerable when getting a massage. The only other time that you're really naked between two sheets would be with your sexual partner. Although, there is nothing sexual about a massage. There is, however, something intimate. You are vulnerable, and you are sharing a piece of yourself with someone else. And if, by chance, an SER occurs, you may then feel even more vulnerable. This is why I recommend that you do find a massage therapist that you do connect with and that you find that you can grow with, that will hold space for you to feel your feelings, and that you feel safe to be vulnerable with.
